Yes, they are. That said, specialty drywall anchors or wood blocks - both of which are commonly available at all home improvement stores - might be required for additional support.

Yes, it is. Just like wood framing, steel framing too needs a moisture barrier to separate it from the concrete underneath.

No. Provided the steel studs used have been galvanized with a G40 coating at the very least. These have proven to be very successful in residential, commercial and industrial applications.

As per the NBCC (the National Building Code of Canada), two layers of 5/8” type X gypsum boards are supported if the tested assemblies in the table A-9.10.3.1B are taken into account. The Bailey RC PLUS resilient channel we offer also supports two layers of gypsum boards and has been extensively tested for it.

Yes, absolutely. Lightweight steel framing has been a growing trend in residential construction and offers particular advantages in basement applications given the many advantages of steel, including:

  • Steel framing is a non-combustible building material that meets and exceeds all building code requirements;
  • Steel framing is lightweight yet super sturdy
  • It is an inert material that does not promote mould growth and is not susceptible to termites;
  • Steel framing also offers better sound resistance

The following steps will ensure the perfect fit:

  • Trim head screws specifically designed to screw into steel studs;
  • Cross toe-nailing;
  • Laminate with silicone glue.

A couple of tools can be used for this purpose, including band saws, hack saws, chop saws and tin snips.

Yes. We can generally have them ready for you by the next business day.
